About the University of Miami Cheerleading Program

The University of Miami has a long tradition of cheerleading since its founding in 1925. With five National Championships in football, and countless Bowl and NCAA Basketball Tournament appearances, the spirit program has been a vital part of the athletic program at UM.

The cheerleading program at Miami consists of two teams, the coed team with 15 members and the all-girl team which is made up of 15 females. The teams cheer at football games and men's and women's basketball games. Cheerleaders may also travel to away football games and post-season play.

The UM Cheerleaders are a major public relations arm of the University and participate in various athletic and University events and countless community service projects throughout the year.

Cheerleaders at UM are treated as all athletes at the University with access to tutors, trainers and medical staff. A small book stipend is also awarded to some members of the teams.
