NORA Member CEP Announced New Catalyst That Helps Improve Re-refined Product Quality
NORA member Chemical Engineering Partners (CEP) announces the availability of a catalyst package for hydrotreating re-refined base oil. CEP’s catalyst package includes CEP HRX-597 and CEP HRX-719 catalysts. The CEP catalyst package is required as part of the CEP warranty support program for CEP licensed plants.
CEP is a leading process technology design firm in the re-refining industry and is an affiliate of Evergreen Oil Inc (EOI). EOI has successfully operated its state of the art facility for re-refining used oil in Newark, California since 1986 and has continuously improved and updated its process. CEP is responsible for licensing the re-refining technology developed at the EOI facility to third parties. CEP uses a proprietary kinetic model to optimize the sizing of its hydrotreating reactors to ensure that product specifications are achieved (including reduction of known carcinogens) and desired catalyst life is achieved at minimum capital cost. The CEP process produces API Group II base oils. The base oils produced at the EOI plant have been tested and have achieved API certification. "We are very excited about our new catalyst package," said George Lamont, President of CEP. "We are always looking for ways to improve our process and reduce capital costs for our customers."
CEP has designed re-refining plants around the world. In 2009, there are three projects that are either completed or scheduled for completion. Earlier this year, Heartland Re-refining Group LLC started up its 20 million gallon per year re-refinery with a CEP designed hydrotreating section producing Group II base oils. In addition, a CEP designed plant in Finland is in the final stages of start up and is expected to be online before the end of June 2009. Later in the year, another plant is scheduled to come online the mid-Continent area of the USA. CEP expects to start two to three new projects before the year ends.
There is a significant amount of used oil that that is neither re-refined nor recycled around the world. "Our goal is to increase the number of re-refineries to help capture those lost gallons and put them to the best use," said Mark Williams, Business Development Manager for CEP. "Our new catalyst package will help in producing high quality Group II base oil". CEP HRX-597 and CEP HRX-719 are available as part of a CEP designed hydrotreating section or as part of a complete plant designed by CEP.
