2016 Mid-Year Meeting Session Topics

  Lunch Presentation: Roy Schumacher

We all watch crude oil prices because it is a major driver in our industry. Some of us monitor natural gas. But into today’s market, everyone is affected by so much more. Base Oil, VGO, VTAE, RFO, MDO and even propane are impacting your local markets. Add in the major supply/demand factors in the asphalt industry redefining markets and suddenly our markets have become much more complex.

This presentation will help shine a light on how our markets have changed and how important it is to understand and monitor all of the complexities in today’s market.

Congressional Bill Introduced about Used Oil
A bill was introduced in Congress on April 15 that would require the Secretary of Energy to submit to Congress a coordinated Federal strategy to increase the beneficial reuse of used lubricating oil. Raising the Standards for Recycled Anti-freeze
During the anti-freeze committee meeting, there will be a discussion about the potential development of new NORA Best Practices to raise the standards for recycling antifreeze.

POTWs Adding 'Feed Limits' to CWTs
A new trend being seen is POTWs adding front-end 'Feed Limits' on what their facilities can take. Some of the limits include benzene, metals or generally wastewater from landfill leachate and the oil & gas industry - regardless of the facility's ability to process it. This session will explore the magnitude of this threat and potential actions members can take.

Used Oil in Wastewater Becoming Problematic
As the value of used oil is declining, more used oil with high solids is ending up in wastewater streams. The challenge is that the volume of this oil is increasing while markets for it are decreasing.
