On November 14th, NORA Executive Director Scott D. Parker and NORA Senior Adviser Jack Waggener participated in a program in Washington, DC called "Midterm Assessment: The Trump Administration’s Environmental Enforcement Achievements and 2020 Vision for New Regulatory and Legislative Initiatives.”

The Washington, DC event was hosted by NORA’s General Counsel Firm Barnes & Thornburg LLP.

Presenters included Susan Parker Bodine, Assistant Administrator of the EPA Office of Enforcement and Compliance Assurance and Jonathan Pawlow, Senior Council for the US House Water Resources & Environment Subcommittee.

The sessions focused on the effect of the Mid-Term Election on environmental issues of importance to NORA Members.

“It was refreshing to hear that the EPA leaders is committed to using all the tools available to it regarding enforcement,” stated Parker. “In the past, EPA measured success through federal enforcement actions. Today, EPA is moving from enforcement to compliance.”

Regarding the congress, the experts predict a big switch in the House of Representatives toward oversight of the EPA. This may lead to gridlock unless the House takes a bipartisan approach.

NORA will continue to work in Washington and around the country to protect and defend the rights of its members to responsibly collect and recycle used oil and related materials.
